I really hate it when people use cissexuality as an insult. As if being cissexual disqualifies you from having an opinion, often one that is totally unrelated to issues of gender identity; or that it somehow makes you ignorant and probably transphobic. Obviously, as a cissexual I don’t have a deep understanding of the problems faced by transgender or intersex individuals, but I still try my hardest to understand the multitudes of gender identities and do my best not to offend anyone. And yet I often find that some people (trans or not) feel completely entitled to make sweeping generalisations about cissexual people. Um, no, just because we’re the majority doesn’t mean it’s ok to insult us and assume that we’re all ignorant, conservative arseholes who think in purely heteronormative terms.
